Our History

Durkin and Sons have for the more than 40 years, been providing combined civil and power projects at LV, HV and EHV for the UK.
 
With experience in many major innovations, and leading the way, by providing our customers with successful end to end project completions, we have an enviable record as a Trusted Partner of Choice.
 
Durkin and Sons provide end to end design and build solutions for power connections, to data centres, new commercial developments, solar and BESS projects and windfarms.
 
We are well respected for our ability to deliver strategic interconnectors at EHV, circuit upgrades at all voltages, and network extensions for public and private network owners, including ‘Distribution Network Operators’ (DNO’s), ‘Independent Distribution Network Operators’ (IDNO’s), Ministry of Defence, Hospitals, Docks and Generators.    

Our Executive Management Team

Michael has been at the Helm of Durkin and Sons for over 40 years. Originally a qualified QS and chartered surveyor, Mike joined the family company, in a number of roles before taking over as Director in 1983.  What keeps him coming back for more?  The engineering aspects of the job (He still has a compressed air certificate) for tunnel headings. His best ever day at work was the completion of the IFA 2 project (it’s in our case study selection)  He’s justly proud of what Durkin and Sons achieved working with a significant team, and notable industry leading clients.

Drawing on over 25 years of industry experience, Ben started his career as a a graduate Civil Engineer with MJ Gleeson and quickly rose to Senior positions with Volker Fitzpatrick and Balfour Beatty. He has since held a number of notable roles dealing with some very high profile projects requiring complex civil design solutions as well as overseeing utilities frameworks  with companies such as Volker and Skanska before joining Durkin and Sons as MD in 2024.

After a career in HM Forces, Kieren transitioned to the water industry, quickly advancing to HSEQ Manager and expanding his expertise to include quality management. Armed with a NEBOSH Diploma and ISO auditor accreditation, he leads the HSEQ function at Durkin & Sons. Over 20 years, he has worked across civil engineering, utilities, waste, recycling, renewable energy, petrochemical, atomic, and defence sectors. A passionate rugby fan, Kieren spends his free time enjoying motorcycles and classic cars.

HSSEQ Director

Mark has over 35 years’ experience in the civil engineering and utilities sector, starting in the gas industry before moving into water, focusing on Repair & Maintenance, Mains Rehabilitation, and Trunk Mains Leakage. In 1998, he transitioned to management, progressing to Operations Director within a decade. His expertise includes PQQ’s, Estimating, Tender Adjudications, Risk and Bid Management, cost reduction initiatives, budget forecasting, and contractual leadership. With a strong emphasis on cash recovery and negotiations, Mark has consistently delivered results and added value throughout his career.
